![]() ![]() ![]() Sure, there’s no Ponte Vecchio, but the Ponte di Mezzo is a graceful arch that spans the two sides of the city, giving Pisa a Florentine type of “Oltrarno” district, too. The sea retreated but is still easily accessible for beach days and summer fun, while the Arno provides placid riverside walks, similar to Florence further upstream. Lounging along the Arno River, the city was once closer to the sea and a mighty maritime republic in league with Genoa, Venice, and Amalfi. With cultural events, concerts, and museums aplenty, there is much more to Pisa than most travelers realize. With 91,000 people, it’s vibrant and active-further enhanced by the university students who attend the trio of historic institutions there. But Pisa proves it isn’t a one-trick pony there is much more to the city than its tilted tower. In fact, it’s infamous that inclined tower has become the symbol not just of Pisa but an iconic image of Italy itself. It does look doable that way.Yes, it’s famous. But the first trip I looked at I chose the same route you propose. Thank you, I had read that I should take the train instead to the other Pisa station that is closer to the tower, because the central Pisa train is 30 min walk to the tower. If all you really want is to see the tower, that's enough time (even allowing about 15 minutes for a taxi from Pisa Cenrale to the tower and another back from the tower). This plan allows you about three hours in Pisa if you get the first departure or two hours if you don't. The wise move is to take the train before the last one so you have a fallback option if something goes wrong, that train would be the 13:02, arriving at 15:35. ![]() The first direct train you can reasonably make is the 7:47 IC arriving to Pisa at 10:17, the back up if you miss this one departs at 8:53 and arrives at 11:01.įor the return the last possible direct train leaves Pisa at 13:42 and arrives to Genoa PP (the station walking distance to the port) at 16:14. You can do this by train if you focus on your goal, seeing the tower, rather than maximizing the length of the day. You would have to pay for a car service for the full day, I would expect about 400 euro. ![]()
